Caring for Our Clients
For almost 13 years now first as STEER and now as D.M.H.A.S. we have done our utmost to assist in the recovery of clients to enable them to achieve their full potential, as we are an independent organization we believe our clients feel safe and secure and are able to talk to us in confidence.
We foster a respectful and non-judgemental environment where our clients are encouraged to progress at their own pace. We are of course ever mindful that they are given the freedom to Advocate for themselves when they feel ready and are encouraged to do so.
We would like to think that our work would go some way in keeping clients well and therefore may in some cases reduce the need for hospital admission.
We try to ensure that all parts of the county are covered by our service and those clients who cannot access us are seen in their own home or in a Day Centre. The county does not have a great bus service in some parts and therefore making ourselves available to all clients is of the upmost importance to us.
Meet the Team
“I have been working as an advocate since 2008. I have found in my ten plus years supporting people with mental health difficulties that empathy is central to my work. As a peer advocate I like to think that I stand as an example of hope to others”.
“In 2017, as a mature student, I graduated with first class honours in Health and Social Care. I have been working in support and advocacy roles ever since.
I gain a sense of fulfillment when I enable the people I work with to move forward in their journey towards wellness”
Providing a safe place for people who have experienced mental health difficulties to express their personal narratives and emotions.
